- Start with the item you need. Gold Bars and Consecration Stones have officially named sources; ordinary equipment and specific Legendary targets rely more heavily on player farming reports.
- For replacement gear, compare a boss you can repeatedly finish with your current farm. A target appearing in a drop list does not guarantee the next run will reward it.

For Mythic Rift, use the newer entry requirement: patch 1.0.2 reduced the cost to three Skull of Inferno. Older instructions listing two boss materials plus one skull describe the previous 1.0.1 change. Check that your supply can sustain the number of attempts you plan to make.

The Bottomless Potion Belt thread is also a warning about expectations. One player had a long unsuccessful search; another reported success much sooner. The report makes Tazan Wastes a lead worth checking in your map’s drop information, not a promise of a belt after a fixed number of runs.
When a progression wall is really a gear problem
If a boss repeatedly kills you, move the farm to a boss you already finish reliably. Do not choose solely by the highest displayed level. Silverrend’s Manticore example is about replacing outgrown equipment, while the general equipment thread favors silver and gold bosses. Neither proves one fixed farming schedule for every class.
Identify the weak part of the build
Decide whether you need a weapon, a defensive replacement, a named effect or a material. A general gear farm and a rare-item hunt are different jobs.
Confirm the target information
Read the current stage’s listed drops for a named item. For the official material routes above, match the named activity and difficulty.
Watch a complete attempt
Check the boss, your survival and the rerun transition before committing to an unattended session.
Compare useful results
Record successful clears, time and items that solve your problem. Do not treat a large pile of unwanted loot as the same result as an actual upgrade.
If you are mainly trying to gain character levels, switch to the fast-leveling comparison instead. The best place for a specific material may not be the best use of an XP potion, and an easy equipment farm may stop being useful once you have replaced the weak pieces.
