- Start with your main damage skill and the reason your runs fail. Choose gear that addresses those needs.
- Conditional bonuses only help while their conditions are met. Stationary basic attacks and attacks against controlled enemies need different equipment.
- The named endgame items below have level-70 requirements. They are examples to evaluate, not a universal shopping list.
Choose your next upgrade by the problem it solves
If ordinary enemies die comfortably but a boss defeats you, another farming bonus may not be your next useful upgrade. If your character survives but spends the fight out of mana, a damage-only swap can leave you in the same place. Start by identifying the failure, then look for an item that addresses it.
| What you see | What to inspect | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Your main attack barely hurts the boss | Weapon level and bonuses that apply to that attack | A high-rarity item built around a skill you do not use |
| Your main skill keeps stopping | Mana costs and the sustain you lose when swapping gear | Replacing sustain with damage before the rotation can support it |
| You die during otherwise good runs | Health, mitigation and whether the defensive effect actually activates | Treating displayed damage as the only upgrade metric |
| No useful upgrades reach your inventory | Pickup and auto-sell filters | Filtering out a lower-rarity weapon while still wearing a much older one |
One October launch-week player reported breaking a progression wall after turning off uncommon auto-sell and replacing an old bow. It is a small but useful reminder: keeping a weak weapon while waiting for a better colour can cost more progress than accepting a temporary upgrade.
Read the condition behind the powerful effect
| Item | Documented effect | Question to ask before using it |
|---|---|---|
| Visage of the Undying | 25% reduction to all damage taken | Do you need steadier survival more than another offensive bonus? |
| Glorious Gladiator Helmet | 30% bonus to Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence | Does increasing your core attributes solve the current bottleneck? |
| Ring of Revelation — Black Mist | Basic Attack Damage builds while standing still | Are you stationary long enough, and are basic attacks a meaningful part of your damage? |
| Amber Skull Staff — Black Mist | Critical Damage bonus against Immobilized or Slowed enemies | Can your setup reliably create the stated condition? |
| Unstoppable Gauntlets — Black Mist | Ability hits build a temporary Armor bonus | Do your ability hits maintain stacks when you need protection? |
All five examples list a required level of 70. Their tooltips establish effects and restrictions, not a ranking across every class. Check the class requirement as well: the listed Amber Skull Staff is available to Warrior, Sorcerer and Monk, while the other examples above list all classes.
A good recommendation includes its build
The October Sacred Judgment Monk discussion is a useful example of context. Its author pairs the main attack with mana sustain and conditional damage, then changes the leg slot for more damage only after the remaining mana supply is sufficient. The important lesson is the dependency: removing the item that keeps your skill running can undo the benefit of a stronger damage piece.
Treat a published build’s gear list as a package to understand, not a set of isolated item names. Check which skill drives it, how it sustains mana, which enemy conditions it applies and what protects the character. If your setup lacks one of those pieces, the same item may not perform the same job.
Make a controlled swap
- Keep the old item until you have compared the replacement.
- Use the same encounter and keep talents, skills and other equipment unchanged for the comparison.
- Watch for deaths, stalled casts and slow boss kills as well as clear time.
- Keep separate choices when one item is comfortable for farming and another solves a tougher encounter.
Before spending heavily on a replacement, finish this sentence: the item improves my main skill under conditions my build can maintain. If you cannot explain that fit, keep comparing rather than buying solely for the rarity label.
