- The developer scheduled the demo to shut down on September 26, 2026, in the evening PDT. Treat old demo download and progression advice as historical.
- The full Steam game launched on September 28. Demo saves and challenge rewards should not be assumed to transfer automatically.
Can you still play the Deskrawl demo?
Deskrawl has moved on from its pre-release demo. In the September 25 announcement, First Day Dev said the demo would shut down the following evening, September 26 PDT, to focus resources and servers on the full game. The September 28 announcement then confirmed the full release.
That is a shutdown announcement, rather than a fresh test of an old demo installation. If you are deciding where to start, use the full game’s Steam listing. An old video with a download prompt does not establish that its demo build is still available.
| Date | What was announced | What it means for a new player |
|---|---|---|
| September 25, 2026 | Demo shutdown scheduled for the evening of September 26 PDT | Do not plan a new playthrough around the old demo. |
| September 28, 2026 | Full game officially released | Use release-era mechanics and patch notes. |
| October 8, 2026 | Version 1.0.2 announced | Early launch guides can also contain superseded balance advice. |
Why does the full game look different?
Players returning at launch reported a changed map, different talent layouts and a Life Skills tree that seemed much smaller. One useful distinction emerged in the September 28 discussion: Life Skills nodes and connecting paths appear as earlier nodes are unlocked. A short-looking tree is therefore not enough to conclude that all the missing upgrades were removed.
The same thread contains speculation about why other skills or areas changed. Those guesses are not a developer explanation. When a demo guide names a talent you cannot find, compare the actual effect and prerequisites on your current character instead of spending points to reproduce the old screenshot.
| Old advice concerns | Check in the full game |
|---|---|
| Talent allocation | Current node names, effects and prerequisites. |
| Route through the world map | Your currently connected nodes and the difficulty selected. |
| Life Skills | New nodes revealed after an upgrade. |
| Drops or farming speed | The relevant release patch; later updates changed several loot rules. |
Demo saves, offline progress and challenge rewards
The June demo discussion contains a developer reply saying offline progression was not in the demo and might be added to the full game. The word “might” matters: this is a historical statement about the demo, not a current promise about closed-game earnings. The follow-up asking whether demo progress would carry over has no developer answer in that discussion.
The shutdown announcement also says the team would collect leaderboard information and prepare Big Treant challenge reward minions. It does not supply a complete claim procedure, eligibility table or automatic save-transfer promise. Keep the challenge reward question separate from ordinary character progression.
- Keep your old save files intact; no supported demo-to-release transfer procedure is established here. Do not replace a working full-game save with demo files on a guess.
- If a challenge reward is missing, include your demo participation details and character information when contacting support; the announcement alone cannot prove an individual account is eligible.
- Use a full-release guide for your next build. Demo boss videos are useful historical context, but their damage, talents and level milestones may differ.
