- Full-game players report receiving XP and gold when the game is closed, rather than equipment or materials. The exact reward formula, time cap and eligibility rules are not verified here.
- Leaving Deskrawl running in the background and choosing a Singleplayer character are different from closing it. The official Singleplayer rare-drop buff does not establish closed-game item rewards.
Three meanings of “offline”
| Situation | What it means | What to expect from the available evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Game closed | The application is no longer running | October community reports describe XP and gold, not item farming. |
| Game running in the background | Deskrawl remains open while you use another window or hide its interface | Treat this as a running session, not evidence of closed-game rewards. |
| Singleplayer character | A character-mode choice, whether you are watching the game or not | Official 1.0.2 notes give Offline characters a buff for specified rare drop categories. |
The distinction caused confusion in the October “Offline vs Online” thread. The original poster meant Singleplayer balance; replies initially discussed shutting the game. Mr.Darklight eventually made the distinction explicit, describing closed-game rewards as XP and gold. Do not use an answer to one question as a rule for the other.
What is reported for a closed-game session?
In an October 1 question, UwU reported receiving no progress after a night away despite owning the relevant Life Skill. Venenifer replied that offline rewards provide XP and gold, with no items, and described them as less efficient than leaving the game open. The reply also says rewards depend on the highest unlocked stage, but no complete calculation or verified cap is supplied.
A September 29 discussion separately points players toward a Life Skill for offline gains and says other characters gain gold too. Check your own character’s Life Skills rather than assuming the feature is fully enabled on a new character. That report does not establish an exact unlock level, price or shared-reward formula.
If you return to no obvious progress
Confirm which situation occurred
Note whether you closed Deskrawl completely, left it running, or only changed character mode. These are different tests.
Check the relevant Life Skills
Read the current offline-progress node and its prerequisites. Do not rely on a remembered unlock level from a forum.
Write down the starting state
Record the character, mode, level progress, gold and time before a short closed-game session.
Compare the same character afterward
Check XP and gold separately from the item bag. If nothing changed, record the exact before-and-after values and any message the game displayed.
Report a reproducible mismatch
Include the game version, time away and relevant node state. A vague “offline is broken” report leaves too many possible conditions unresolved.
These checks help distinguish a missing reward from a different expectation. They do not diagnose a save bug, prove an offline cap or guarantee a reward. Keep the before-and-after record with the current node description so another player or support can compare the same conditions.
The Singleplayer rare-drop buff is a separate rule
Patch 1.0.2 states that Offline characters in Singleplayer receive a buff doubling the drop chance of super-rare categories including Divine and Black Mist equipment, Legendary and Rune Set runes, and valuable commodities. This is an official character-mode change. It does not say those items appear as rewards after the application has been closed.
If your aim is a particular piece of equipment, plan around a running farming session and check its pickup settings and survival. Use the loot guide to choose a target, rather than expecting the Singleplayer label to turn a closed-game break into an item farm.
Why older answers say there is no offline progress
On June 19, the developer answered “not in the demo” when asked about offline progression and left the full-game possibility open. That answer concerns the demo. It cannot settle what the September release and later updates do, just as an October player report cannot establish the earlier demo’s behavior.
