Quick answer
  • Pick Hunter for a ranged weapon route, Sorcerer for an elemental spell route, Monk for attack-and-resource interactions, or Warrior for martial and Thorns options. These are directions to develop, not complete starter kits.
  • There is no verified fastest or easiest starter for patch 1.0.2a. Later set strength is not a measure of the opening hours.

Pick a direction you want to keep improving

The official description presents heroes with different playstyles and asks you to combine their gear, minions and abilities. That is a better basis for your first choice than a tier label taken from someone else’s late-game character. Choose the kind of setup you want to learn, then judge the early character with the equipment it actually has.

Routes to grow toward, not a starting ability list
ClassConsider it if you want…Early expectation to keep realistic
HunterA weapon route that can develop toward Physical, Poison or Arcane.Broad bonuses can help while you are still deciding which damage type your drops support.
SorcererA spell route with Cold, Fire and Lightning options.A later elemental setup may use attacks or equipment you do not yet have.
MonkAttack interactions that develop into paths such as Sacred Judgment or Furious Fist/Hundred Hands.A resource or weapon problem can hold back a promising route.
WarriorA martial route, including Thorns or Half Moon Slash as equipment develops.Strong Thorns reports can depend heavily on an item effect.

Do not confuse a lucky drop with an easy class

The early Warrior discussion is a good example. Jnc reported that their Thorns setup took off with Thornheart Cuirass, while another player explicitly questioned how it would perform without the large Thorns item bonus. That is a reason to notice equipment conditions, not a guarantee that every fresh Warrior has the same experience.

Hunter offers a different reported approach to the same problem: Silverrend kept broad Basic Attack, Strong Attack and All Damage bonuses while experimenting, then developed a Poison route. For Monk, Qkeyz singled out an ageing weapon as a repeated source of progression trouble. Those examples point toward checking your build’s weak part before deciding the class was a mistake.

Ignore promises the opening hours cannot deliver

A later six-piece set is a goal, not the kit your new character starts with. Official updates give Cold Sorcerer, Poison Hunter and Hundred Hands Monk meaningful changes, but they do not compare the time each needs to get established. The same patch history is also a reason not to treat launch-week class opinions as current rankings.

Pick the route that interests you, then build around the attacks and items you already have. When progress stalls, look for the immediate cause: an outdated weapon, repeated Mana gaps or deaths before recovery can help. Fixing that problem is a more useful first move than restarting purely because another player called their class effortless.

What this choice does not establish

This is a playstyle decision, not a character-creation walkthrough. Current character-slot limits, class-change rules and any cost of changing your decision remain unconfirmed. Do not assume that choosing another route means you can freely convert the same character into another class.
