- Patch 1.0.2 increased Electrostatic’s maximum stacks from 5 to 10 in the Sorcerer changes.
- The announcement does not define the per-stack effect. Static Charge and Current Transfer appear in player-reported descriptions, so their exact current interaction remains unconfirmed.
The confirmed change: a 10-stack maximum
The October 8 patch 1.0.2 notes raise Electrostatic’s maximum from five stacks to ten. The change appears under Sorcerer abilities and statuses. If an older guide still uses five as the cap, that part predates this update.
A larger stack cap is not the same thing as a known damage multiplier. The announcement does not state Electrostatic’s effect per stack, its duration, or how quickly a particular build reaches the limit. Those missing details stop us from turning “ten stacks” into a promised DPS gain.
Static Charge and Current Transfer are different questions
An October 4 player post describes Static Charge as applying Electrostatic through Lightning abilities, then describes Current Transfer as spreading it to nearby enemies when an affected enemy dies. The author asks why the second effect is useful when Lightning abilities already hit multiple targets. These are reported tooltip descriptions in an unanswered question, not a verified explanation of the current interaction.
| Mechanic | Evidence boundary |
|---|---|
| Maximum stacks | Official 1.0.2: ten. |
| Application through Static Charge | Described by a player; exact current tooltip not independently checked. |
| Spread through Current Transfer | Described by the same player; conditions and practical value untested. |
| Damage, resistance or other effect per stack | Not established by these sources. |
Does that make Current Transfer redundant?
Current Transfer’s value remains unconfirmed: the player’s question does not compare stack coverage or isolate its death-triggered effect. Do not add or remove talent points on that question alone. The ten-stack patch change establishes the cap, not the value of either talent.
For now, keep this narrow: use ten as the documented patch cap, read the talent text in your own client, and do not copy a damage calculation that gives Electrostatic an unsupported effect. A thread about Hunter also repeats the question, but a reply correctly identifies it as a Sorcerer topic; it is not evidence for a Hunter Electrostatic build.
