Quick answer
  • Flame Lightning is a confirmed Sorcerer ability with both Fire and Lightning damage; patch 1.0.2 raised each listed component from 50% to 60%.
  • Stormguard Necklace can trigger Flame Lightning when you are hit, but its level-70 requirement makes it a late-game interaction, not a starting build.

Flame Lightning is the clearest starting point

The name is more than a search phrase: the 1.0.2 Sorcerer notes explicitly list Fire and Lightning components for Flame Lightning. Both changed from 50% to 60%. That supports discussing the ability as a two-element option, but it does not tell us how every talent or item bonus applies to it.

Avoid turning those two values into a promised overall damage increase. Your total output also depends on what else you cast and how often Flame Lightning contributes. A buff to this ability is not evidence that every Fire-and-Lightning combination is stronger than a focused elemental setup.

What Stormguard Necklace adds

Confirmed pieces of the interaction
PieceConfirmed effect or requirementBuild implication
Flame LightningIts listed Fire and Lightning components were both increased in 1.0.2.There is a genuine mixed-element ability to build around.
Stormguard NecklaceWhen hit, a 30% chance to cast Flame Lightning at the attacker. Its extra casts depend on taking hits.
Necklace requirementSorcerer; required level 70.Do not use this item as the premise of a fresh-character guide.

Stormguard provides a reactive cast opportunity: the listed chance applies when you are hit. Its tooltip does not establish an ideal incoming-hit rate, explain dodges, or tell you how much total damage the extra casts add. Treat it as a specific item interaction to evaluate once you can equip it, not a reason to sacrifice survivability.

Keep the levelling plan separate

In an October 5 levelling discussion, one player recommended Lightning while the original poster explained that the relevant option was not available to their character yet. Another reply suggested surviving with Cold before trying Lightning or mixed elements. The useful lesson is to plan around the abilities you can equip now, rather than treating an eventual hybrid as your opening setup.

If you are already using Flame Lightning, compare gear by the bonuses that actually match its displayed damage components, then check whether the rest of your attacks benefit too. If the proposed setup depends on Stormguard and you do not own or cannot equip it, you are evaluating a different build. There is no complete, verified point-by-point hybrid setup in these sources.
