- Black Mist tooltips describe Legendary equipment whose attributes can be configured by Lady Shadow.
- The examples below require level 70 and list item level 850. Their unique effects have different conditions and trade-offs.
- Update 1.0.2 increased Black Mist drop chance, but did not publish a new numerical rate.
What makes equipment Black Mist?
A Black Mist item is identified by its name and the [Black Mist] tag in its tooltip. The item descriptions call it Legendary equipment covered by Black Mist and explicitly name Lady Shadow as the character who configures its attributes. This gives you two separate things to evaluate: the named item’s unique effect and the attributes you want alongside it.
Start with the effect. Attribute flexibility will not turn a stationary Basic Attack bonus into a bonus for every skill, or remove a stated health trade-off. Read the actual item you intend to use before comparing it with another Black Mist drop.
Examples worth comparing
| Item | Unique effect | Build consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Unyielding Cuirass | Taking damage below 30% Health triggers 4 seconds of invulnerability, with a 25-second cooldown | A conditional defensive tool, not constant immunity. |
| Evasive Cuirass | Bonus Physical Damage Reduction equal to half your Dodge Chance | Listed for Hunter and Monk; judge it alongside your actual Dodge Chance. |
| Thornheart Cuirass | Thorns damage increased by 500%, with 15% less Max Health | Supports Thorns at the cost of health. |
| Ring of Revelation | 10% Basic Attack Damage gained per stationary second, up to 20 stacks | A strong-looking effect can be a poor fit if you keep moving or rely on other attacks. |
These examples list item level 850 and required level 70. The Evasive Cuirass restricts classes to Hunter and Monk; the other three list all classes. This is a selection of documented items, not a complete Black Mist catalogue.
Before you configure attributes
Visit Lady Shadow for the attribute configuration described on the item. Keep a clear goal: support the skill you use, cover the defensive weakness that ends runs, or improve a utility stat you actually need. Avoid spreading the plan across damage types your character does not use.
Check the available attributes and displayed cost before committing. Choose bonuses that fit the unique effect you are keeping. A full configuration recipe and current prices remain unconfirmed, so this guide does not promise a specific number of selectable affixes.
What changed in version 1.0.2?
The October 8 update says Black Mist drop chance increased. It separately gives offline characters in Singleplayer mode a buff that doubles the drop chance of super-rare items, including Black Mist equipment. The mode and character state matter: this is not a blanket promise that online characters receive the same doubling.
Earlier community calculations should not be treated as the post-update rate. The official change does not publish replacement odds, a guaranteed number of runs or a drop timer. A long dry streak by itself cannot tell you the new probability.
Rarity does not remove item conditions. A usable Black Mist piece is one whose unique effect and configurable attributes work with the same plan.
